Garth Farm Campsite in Capel Curig near Betws‑y‑Coed

The host is an incredibly friendly,... read more cheerful guy who made us feel at home right away. At night, the sky was completely full of stars. From a distance, the site looks like it is on a slope. However, if you walk down, you will find plenty of flat spots to pitch a tent easily. The terrain is typical for Snowdonia—soft ground on top, with rock underneath. If you angle your pegs properly, you won't have any issues. I only used Y-pegs and round wire pegs without bending any, just by being careful. Because the site is open all year round, some popular flat spots are heavily used and have less grass. It can get muddy when it rains, so I highly recommend using a tarp/footprint under your tent to avoid packing away muddy gear. The toilet and shower blocks are basic but kept beautifully clean and tidy. Hot showers available for a small fee. Toilet paper is provided, but bring your own hand soap. If you have kids, be very careful as the hot water taps in the bathroom washbasins get extremely hot. There are several sinks in the dishwashing area, though we didn't get any hot water there during our stay. Overall, what a wonderful stay! We are very happy campers and will definitely be back.

I've camped throughout the NC500 in Scotland and, comparatively, the views from John O'Groats and Durness were the only ones I recall with such amazing views and facilities as this... read more one. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful, the campsite was much cheaper and less touristic than others in the area, and the morning views were ethereal. The showers (£1 per 5m) were warm and pretty clean, but will contain the odd spooder or two (unavoidable). There are overnight charging units for a £4 fee and my sleep was peaceful and relaxing. The location puts you nearby transport links like the S5 bus and the Sherpa Shuttle. Additionally, there are great motorway links to major villages like Betws-y-Coed, Pen-y-Pass, and further afield, Yr Wdddfa, Tryfan, Caernarfon and Bangor. Petrol stations are also nearby to top up on fuel when needed. This was an excellent stay for my motorbike holiday and highly recommended to anyone wishing to explore the Eryi National Park in peace and quiet.
